Yep, it's an S14 chassis with S15 body panels....A really overgrown S14.5.

In Nissan speak the later Silvia chassis codes are S13, S14, and S15. It's quite common to swap noses between the models. So they call an S14 with an S15 nose an S14.5. Since this one has the nose and the rear (and the sides)...it's overgrown.

Really at this point its just a racecar chassis with some body panels attached to it....and an LS motor just to piss off Yourstereotypicalindian...

GAAHHHHH!!! I don't the engine, I hate that everyone puts it into everything!!! He could have put an RB26 in there instead! And it will fit, some dude in Chicago did the same thing(with an RB25 though). Plus it would have probably cost about the same to make the same amount of power, maybe a bit more. If I got my prices correct.

That's not what I was the shitting about lol, I know Silvia chassis codes. I was the shitting about how odd it is in general.

I doubt they'd cost the same...you just can't beat the $ per HP the the GM aftermarket can provide...

I do love an RB motor though... and I'd like to have an NA RB with velocity stacks in a Hako one day...

You can generally import them from Japan fairly cheap. How much does an LS go for usually? It can't be more than 10 grand can it?

If you want an NA RB, I recommend the L-Series straight six, they sound amazing!!! Although, I think an RB can make more power. Still though, there is always this sound. . .

I saw the dude in the Roadster again in Indy, and it still sounded just as good :')

Is that roadster motor swapped? They were originally a 4-cylinder. I can't listen to the sound on the video right now to hear if they said....

The L series is what comes in the Hako. Stock its an L20, most guys upgrade to an L28....I'd want the RB for more power and because it's twin cam, and it's natural since it's a nissan straight six. Kind of an evolution thing...but that's for a street car.

The real cost isn't the cost of the motor....it's the cost of racing that motor. Operating it in a race environment is different than the street. How often do you need to rebuild? How much do the ancillaries cost...etc.

I don't have any proof, but I can only imagine the operating costs of a complex motor are more than the operating costs of the tractor motor we've been making since the 50's....at similar power levels...I'm guessing that's why the LS motor was the darling of the Formula D series for a while...cheap and powerful.

Yup, it had the L24 in place of its 4 banger. Sounded amazing!! Loudest car at the event.

Parts of the L-series were used in the RB, so it really is an evolution. Plus you are keeping the engine in the family.

Well, how much horsepower do these drift cars generally use? An RB was way overbuilt for 276hp. It can take 500+ no problem. If they need to run more than that. . . well then they might have issues.

A lot...I've heard some are over 1000. Raph said this Scion had over 700...

And people wonder why drifting is so popular? That is some badass power. Ken Gushi's rocket bunny FRS has a 2JZ with 700hp. It is his drift car, so I am sure an RB can do something similar.

Also, don't the bigger teams have larger budgets? Shouldn't they be doing something different?

Kinja'd!!!0

They are now...but for a while the only way to be competitive was to drop in v8...

I'm sure no team with money takes the decision on motor lightly. A 2JZ in a Scion will get more attention than an LS...so I'm sure that comes into play for the teams with big sponsors and money as well.
